All Indian languages are full of epigrams or subhāşhitās (good-sayings) which reflect the many sided wisdom handed down by tradition. Many of these epigrams can be traced to the Atharvaveda. For instance the list of six psychological enemies ari shad varga such as lust kāma, anger krodha, greed lobha, delusion moha, arrogancemada and jealously mātsarya occurs in all languages. The Atharvaveda (8.4.22), also RV (7.104.22), explicitly refers to this list describing each quality by its associated animal or bird, the association itself being ancient. For instance the chakravāka birds denote lust, delusion by owl, jealousy by dog, destructive anger by wolf, greed by vulture and arrogance by eagle.

It was at the start of the second segment that moderator Wolf Blitzer brought up a comment Gingrich made at a forum in Miami earlier this week, where he belittled Romney for living in “a world of Swiss bank accounts and Cayman Island accounts and making $20 million for no work.” In his most effective debate moments, Gingrich has lashed out at moderators and rallied the partisan audience to his side. He called the same play here, deriding Blitzer’s question as “nonsense.”

“How about if the four of us agree for the rest of the evening we’ll actually talk about issues that relate to governing America?” he asked.

Blitzer observed that Gingrich himself had made the comments about Romney – he was just asking about them.

“I did,” Gingrich replied. “And I’m perfectly happy to say that in an interview on some TV show. But this is a national debate where you have a chance to get the four of us to talk about a whole range of issues.”

It was here that Romney spotted an easy and effective opening. After Blitzer told Gingrich that “if you make a serious accusation against Governor Romney like that, you need to explain it,” Romney himself spoke up.

“Wouldn’t it be nice,” he asked, “if people didn’t make accusations somewhere else that they weren’t willing to defend here?”

At that, the crowd went wild. It was the first time that the cheers at the end of a Gingrich confrontation with a moderator had come for a candidate besides Gingrich. Then, almost as if to taunt him, Blitzer told Gingrich that he was ready to move on to the sort of substantive topics that Gingrich was so eager to address if he was. But Gingrich couldn’t let Romney’s line go, and tried to offer a comeback. But it didn’t really matter. The moment was over and Gingrich had lost it – badly.

Federal officials approached Google with evidence of its employees' wrongdoing in mid-2009. After two years of negotiation, Google agreed to pay $500 million to settle the allegations and ward off criminal charges against the company. The settlement was widely reported last year, but few details about the charges were made public at that time. New details emerged this week after the man the feds enlisted to help set up the sting, convicted con artist David Whitaker, revealed details about it to the Wall Street Journal. Whitaker received a nearly 6-year jail sentence for his part in an unrelated fraud case late last year—a sentence that was presumably reduced in recognition of his assistance in the Google case.

This isn't the first time Google has faced accusations of turning a blind eye to illegal activities by advertising customers. Last year, the Copyright Alliance, an advocacy group funded by major content companies,accused Google of turning a blind eye to the use of Google ads to monetize copyright infringement, and speculated that the firm's opposition to the PROTECT IP Act was motivated by a desire to profit from piracy.

Specifically, the post pointed to a 2006 affidavit in which the operator of a "rogue" website said that he had worked directly with a series of Google ad representatives who, he claimed, were aware of the infringing activity on the website but nevertheless helped him optimize his advertisements to increase clickthrough rates.

Founded in 1953 by the eccentric industrialist Howard Hughes, the institute, headquartered in Maryland, is one of the largest philanthropies supporting biomedical research. With an endowment of $17.5 billion, it dispenses about $700 million a year in grants to more than 350 researchers.

Portugal and Spain are each home to five of the winners of the new award. Dr. Tjian said those nations and China have made unusually strong efforts to excel in biomedical research. Italy and South Africa had two winners each, and Brazil, Poland, India, Hungary, Chile, South Korea, and Argentina each had one. The number of applications submitted by scientists from China was matched or nearly matched by scientists in some of the other eligible countries, the institute said.

Four of the seven Chinese winners work at China’s new National Institute of Biological Sciences, which is led by an American-educated scientist, Wang Xiaodong. The remaining three work at Beijing’s Tsinghua University, the Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics in Hubei Province, and Nankai University in Tianjin.

True Incident happened for a lady who is a commuter in Chennai MTC!!

" I m working in Chennai One(Thoraipakkam), Chennai. I usually travelby
Metropolitan Transport Corporation(MTC) bus, from jain college stop (Which
is near to my office) to tidel park and from Tidel park I will catch train,
to home. MTC bus coming from kelambakkam(19B,21H) mostly wont stop in tidel
park in early days. So I usually prefer to get into T51 bus, which will
stop in tidel park stop. After some time 19B started stopping in tidel park
also.

Today while returning from office at around 8.30 pm, I was in a hurry to
catch my 9.28 pm train at Tidel park. I got up a bus(19B) in Jain College
at around 8.45 pm, and asked the conductor to give a ticket for tidel park
stop. He said, the bus wont stop there, and he asked me to get down at
signal if it stops there or else get down at stop next to tidel park. I was
argugingwith him that I am going daily with the same bus and get down in
the tidel park stop. But he kept on saying the same thing.. I got
irritated with conductor response. Suddenly I remembered a complaint phone
no.(9884301013) I read in one bus sometime back and noted down in my
mobile. I called that no. and said about the incident that conductor is not
stopping in the usual stop.

The MTC representative (person at the other end) asked me to give the phone
to the conductor. The conductor was not interested to talking with his
official. The MTC rep. asked me the bus registration no. He enquired where
is the bus at that time and I said it is in Kandhanchavadi. The MTC rep.
said he will come in the line and talk to them. I was curious how he will
come and catch the bus.

After few mins. the wireless transmeter(to track the bus), near the driver
in the bus started shouting... Driver stop the bus. Driver stop the bus in
the left side of the road. Driver was not sure what is happening may be his
first experience, for others(including me) it is the real first
experience. The driver stopped the bus and started listening to the
transmeter. The MTC rep. enquired why the bus is not stopping in tidel park
stop. The driver said he stops in tidel park stop and in the previous trip
also he has done. The rep. asked him then why the conductor is saying like
that. He asked the conductor what is the issue. The conductor was
speechless. The driver somehow managed the situation and supported the
conductor by saying that the conductor was new to this route. The driver
asked excuse for the incident and said he will stop in the Tidel Park stop

The MTC rep. said he wanted to talk the passenger who called him. I went
near the transmeter and spoke to the MTC rep. He said sorry for the
incident happened and asked sorry on behalf of MTC. Everyone in the bus
were surprised of things happening. I came back to my seat and I was so
embarrassed as all were looking at me. Few passengers asked me what is the
number, and whom I called. They also took the number. The bus stopped in Tidel Park
stop then. After getting down I called the MTC rep. and said the bus
stopped in the stopping.

It was a nice experience for me and others who traveled in the bus,
including driver and conductor and I was very surprised after this incident.

Regret shoelace incident happened in public, says Madhya Pradesh minister:
A day after he was seen getting his shoelaces tied by a boy at a public function in Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh, Cooperatives Minister Gauri Shankar Bisen has admitted the act was wrong. He says the boy is a part of his family but the incident should not have happened in public.

Mr Bisen claims that following a surgery, doctors advised him not to bend forward after which he employed the boy to take care of his personal needs.

According to reports, while a road project inauguration function was underway, Cooperatives Minister Bisen reportedly called the boy to tie his shoelaces - not once but twice.

Sensing media persons present at the function taking note of his act, the BJP minister's supporters quickly whisked him away. The boy is now reportedly untraceable.

Union Minister Kamal Nath was also present at the function when the incident happened. He was sitting right next to Mr Bisen, who is a cabinet minister in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led state government. In his defence, the union mister said he "did not notice" the boy tying Mr Bisen's shoelaces. "I did not notice it. And if I had seen it, I would have of course condemned it there and then. In my 31 years of representing the Chindwara district in Parliament, this is the most obnoxious event that has happened. It deserves to be condemned. I was hurt that it happened at an event where I was present."

The issue has given state Congress leaders fresh reasons to attack Bisen and the BJP.

"This act shows the attitude of Bisen towards tribals and minor students. It is also another example of the kind of ministers in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan cabinet. We will protest soon on the issue to get Bisen removed from the cabinet," said Congress spokesperson KK Mishra.

The Tamil movie “Vettai” has a lot of story to tell. The director, N. Lingusamy, can’t stop even when it’s over (about 2 ½ hours): he sneaks a happily-ever-after epilogue over the end credits.

The plot, leisurely told and punctuated by flashy fight sequences and rhythmic musical numbers (the catchy songs are by Yuvan Shankar Raja), concerns two brothers. The older one (Madhavan), gentle and sweet, avoids confrontations; the younger one (Arya) is not afraid to hit or be hit. When their policeman father dies the older brother joins the force in a city run by rival gangs. He makes a name for himself as a fearless corruption-buster while the younger one secretly does all the dirty work, knocking criminals around. Along the way they find time to marry a pair of sisters.

Plenty of Hindi movies — Bollywood, that is — open in New York, but Tamil films remain a rare commodity in theaters. If “Vettai” brings to mind “Singham,” a recent Hindi good-cop-cleans-up-bad-town movie, it’s not surprising. “Singham” started life as a Tamil film whose success spurred regional remakes.

Set in the coastal town of Thoothukudi and the surrounding countryside, “Vettai” partakes of the something-for-everyone formula, mixing the serious — corruption, evil gangs and limb-threatening fights — with the less so: songs, romance and comedy. It entertains without breaking any new ground, though it can also surprise.

My favorite part was a song, sung by the sisters among green fields dotted with palm trees. The theme: the kind of man they would like to marry. The gist: He shouldn’t be pencil thin or stare too hard at shopping bills or be preoccupied with work. Instead: “I need a man who will care for me like a mother.”

the great rice crisis of 2008 — was a true disaster for some of the poorest people in Asia and West Africa.

The Indian government decided to buy more rice for its food distribution programs, instead of wheat.

Egypt, Pakistan and Vietnam all started limiting the amount of rice that they would export. Government officials in Thailand, the world's leading rice exporter, started talking about setting up a cartel of rice exporters, similar to OPEC.

That, in turn, put the squeeze on countries like the Philippines, which don't grow enough rice for their own consumption. They need to buy rice from abroad.

Government officials in the Philippines spent taxpayer money on a series of sweetheart deals with a state-run company in Vietnam called Vinafood.

During the first four months of 2008, the price of a ton of rice on the world market went from $300 to $1,200.

In countries that relied on imported rice, from West Africa to the Philippines, people got squeezed hard.

And remember: All of this was completely artificial. There still was plenty of rice in the world! Fear and self-interest was keeping it off the market.

Two Americans — the economist Peter Timmer and Tom Slayton, who follows rice markets for a living from his home in Alexandria, Va. — hatched a plot to pop the rice bubble.

These stockpiles of rice exist because the World Trade Organization has forced Japan to import it from the U.S. But Japan doesn't want that rice, and most of it just sits in warehouses. Japan is not allowed to re-export it — unless the U.S. says it can.

Timmer and Slayton started a lobbying campaign, pushing a deal between the U.S. and Japan that would allow Japan to export that rice to the Philippines. In mid-May 2008, both sides agreed. And that announcement was enough; the price started to drop.
