From George Saunders's new novel 'Lincoln in the Bardo'

The following chapters are taken from George Saunders’s novel Lincoln in the Bardo (reviewed in the current TLS),
which is published this week. The setting is a graveyard, the speakers
its inhabitants; the “unkempt fellow” is Abraham Lincoln, who has come
to visit his recently deceased young son, Willie.
